If yesterday was a 10 on an indecency scale, you have certainly brushed against a 9 now and then. Yesterday afternoon, a friend asked me, “Why do you think it was today that ABC took action? Of all days, why today?” After all, a simple Google search uncovers a long trail of controversial actions in your wake. And while I think that over the years the magnifying glass of fame and fortune has distorted your reality, I can’t and won’t blame the fame drug for your ignorant and violently unfunny tweets. I think in your mind’s eye you think you present yourself to the world the way that the script used to present Roseanne Connor to the world, but you don’t. That part of me feels bad for you because I think you believe you are a nicer person than you really are. There is a part of me that thinks it understands you. You’ve been in Hollywood a long time so you know more than most how monumental this moment is in television history. I hope you allow yourself to feel it, Roseanne, though I’m not sure how anyone can bear the weight of such an epic evaporation. That has got to be a hard pill to swallow, even for you. Yesterday, everyone who had your back and believed in your brand – despite your many blind spots of human decency and your questionable critical thinking skills – they all distanced themselves from your evolving toxicity. Gay, I’m going to move beyond the gimmick of my title and direct the rest of this diatribe at Ms. I promised I’d come back and report if I changed my mind about watching the reboot, so here I am.
Remember me? The woman you don’t know from Adam who wouldn’t join you in boycotting the Roseanne re-boot just because Roseanne was a Trump supporter?
